Environment

the lake at Ashfield Park Homes The Park and Wildlife

Ashfield Park is on the plain created by the lower reaches of three rivers: the Trent, the Don and the Ouse, which is fed by the Derwent, the Aire and the Wharfe. We are close to the southern bank of the estuary where these great waterways merge to become the Humber and, soon, the tides of the North Sea.

Ashfield Park is approached through a gentle landscape with few hills, and vast and calming vistas of open farmland under the broad sky. This pleasant walking area is threaded by many smaller rivers as well as man-made inland waterways and canals.
The pleasant surroundings of Ashfield Park include the golf course, which is just across the road. To the rear of the Park is a lake, which the home of many rare birds and a family of swans, which under the care of the residents produce a new family of cygnets every year. The swans are very friendly and the residents of Ashfield Park take great care to ensure that they are fed during the winter months.

Coarse fishing enthusiasts may be interested in searching out the local ponds, the River Trent and small streams.

Ashfield Park Homes Scunthorpe About Scunthorpe

Scunthorpe has a family-friendly centre with many well-kept municipal flower beds and borders to enjoy. The Foundry, Scunthorpe's traditional town centre still offers many family-run shops as well as the larger chain stores.

Market days occur every Friday and Saturday and the town also holds a fortnightly Farmers Market. Twice a year there is a very successful "French Market" for arts and crafts, which now includes the work of local artists and crafts-people. There is also a major arts centre, home of Scunthorpe's Plowright Theatre, named in honour of Joan Plowright, the famous actress.

A brand new shopping complex, The Parishes, was opened by Her Majesty the Queen on her 2002 Jubilee Tour. All the major high street shop names and brand names are present. The complex hosts a seven-screen cinema with luxury seating. The Parishes is linked by a glazed walkway to a 600+ space covered car-park and to the bus terminus.

Around the edges of the town are various centres where Asda, Morrisons and Tesco supermarkets and the usual international megastores such as Homebase, B & Q, Comet, Argos and a host of furnishing, carpet and d-i-y stores can be found.

Surrounding Counties

This flat but pleasant land is dotted with distinctive villages that offer lovely leisurely pub lunches and little pockets of hidden history waiting to be discovered.

Ashfield Park, being situated in North Lincolnshire, is within travelling distance of the historic cities of York and Lincoln, and also the homes of our traditional North Sea fisheries, Hull and Grimsby. The two ports are being redeveloped and new attractions created, for example, The Deep, a world-class aquarium complex opened in 2000 on the Hull waterfront.

There are several stately homes within easy reach. Only a half hour drive away is Normanby Hall, with its deer park and gardens, and other delightful visits can be discovered through local and regional guidebooks.

Park Homes in a Rural Lincolnshire location
The coastline has many nature reserves and bird watching centres, including the well-known Spurn Head, an easy drive across the impressive Humber Bridge. Colonies of breeding seals are often seen on North Lincolnshire beaches. The sand stretches for some twenty miles, from the well known sailing centre of Cleethorpes southwards past Mablethorpe to Skegness.

This whole region has many popular racecourses, from the friendly local track at Market Rasen to the famous meeting places of York, Wetherby, Doncaster, Beverley, Catterick, Nottingham, Pontefract and Thirsk.

The area hosts a pair of the nicest of Britain's motor racing circuits. Cadwell Park's wooded slopes near Louth in the Lincolnshire Wolds contrast with the newly-opened Rockingham Raceway with its exciting high speed oval track. A little farther away lies the renowned Donington Park circuit with its museum filled with treasures from motor sport's past.

For those who enjoy going further afield, Hull offers daily ferries to Rotterdam, Zebrugge, Scandinavian and European ports, and Humberside airport, only 20 minutes drive away, offers flights to other UK airports plus Schipol International Airport near Amsterdam. There are also flights to overseas holiday destinations, particularly Spain and Portugal.
